Digital LED Controller

Addressable RGB LED Controller is a device used to drive "addressable LEDs / addressable LED strips." Unlike ordinary RGB controllers, it allows each individual LED to change color independently, enabling effects such as flowing water, rainbow gradients, running lights, music synchronization, and pixel animations.

1. Core Principle

Each LED on an addressable strip has a built-in driver IC (e.g., WS2812B / SK6812 / WS2811 / WS2813 / WS2815 / APA102 / SK9822). The controller sends digital signals via a data line:

  • WS2812B / SK6812: Single-wire data (DIN → DOUT cascading)

  • APA102 / SK9822: SPI two-wire (DATA + CLK)

  • DMX512: Used in stage/professional applications; differential A/B signal + decoder

Each LED receives its own 24-bit data (8 bits each for RGB), latches the values, and displays the color — hence the term "individual pixel control."

2. Common Types of Controllers

  1. Bluetooth / IR / RF Remote Controller

    • No programming required; switch effects via a mobile app or remote control

    • Suitable for: home decor, gaming rooms, shops, car ambient lighting

  2. SD Card / T-1000S / K1000S Type

    • Create animations using LedEdit software, store them on an SD card, and play offline

    • Suitable for: signage, weddings, building lighting, pixel screens

  3. WLED / ESP32 / ESP8266 Type

    • Flash with WLED firmware; control via a mobile web interface with 200+ effects; integrates with Home Assistant

    • Suitable for: smart homes, music-reactive lights, DIY projects

  4. DMX512 Controller

    • Professional stage use, large-scale wall washing, commercial lighting

    • Requires a console/decoder; higher cost but highly stable

  5. Arduino + FastLED

    • Write code to freely control each LED

    • Suitable for: developers, creative installations
